Indispensible

Webware has a survey up, The WebWare 100. If you have a minute, go fill it out. One app that was noticably missing was the incredible Jott.

A year or so ago, I bought a digital voice recorder, as a means of capturing flighty brilliance. I’d be in the car, and I’d think of something, and I’d record it into the DVR. The problem I had was extracting my information. The recording was fine, but then it would take me forever to get it back off the recorder — not because it was a difficult process, but simply because I didn’t do it that often, so notes would pile up, and then I’d think “I don’t want to bother with transcribing these,” and I’d just ignore them. Jott solves that problem.

With Jott, I call up their number, record a brief message, and within seconds, I have an e-mail in my inbox, with my dictation, transcribed. I can’t stress how brilliant this application is. It’s easy, it’s free, and it works. You can even set it up to send transcribed messages to other people.

There are a few web apps that have truly changed the way that I think, work, and live. Gmail is one of them. Jott is another.
